The 8 kg washing machine is the most chosen size, and not without reason: it is the balance between a roomy drum and a compact appliance that fits a normal laundry room. Below you can read who 8 kg is meant for, how it compares to 7 and 9 kg, and what else to look at in a Heinner washing machine.
An 8 kg washing capacity is the family size. Count on a household of 3 to 4 people that washes regularly: a full family load, sportswear, towels and a double duvet cover all fit comfortably. The rule of thumb is to reckon on around 2 kg of drum load per person, plus a little extra room for peaks such as bed linen or a thick jumper. With 8 kg you do not have to cram the drum to the brim, and that is exactly what this size is made for: a neat, full load without having to run it every day.
If you choose 7 kg, you are well served in a small household of 1 or 2 people that does not wash much bed linen; those machines are often slightly more compact and cheaper. 9 kg is the step up for a large family of 5 people or more, or if you often wash big and heavy loads. 8 kg sits deliberately in between and covers most households: large enough to wash bed linen in one go, but not needlessly big or expensive. Torn between two sizes? Then choose the larger one — a half-full drum is not a problem, a drum that is too small is.
Because a family machine often runs several times a week, a favourable energy label pays for itself quickly. The Heinner 8 kg washing machines sit in the A and B classes; when comparing, watch the consumption in kWh per 100 cycles and the water use. An efficient machine combines low consumption with a good spin result, so your laundry dries faster and you have less to dry afterwards. Anyone who wants to work out the long-term saving will find an explanation in our knowledge base of what an efficient machine yields per year.
The spin speed determines how dry your laundry comes out of the machine. On 8 kg models you come across speeds of around 1200 to 1400 revolutions per minute; more revolutions means less residual moisture and therefore shorter drying time. Also look at the programmes you actually use: a quick wash for lightly soiled clothing, an eco programme for everyday laundry and possibly a steam or anti-crease setting. If the washing machine stands close to the living area, watch the noise level in decibels. An 8 kg Heinner machine combines these functions in a size that fits almost any laundry room.

7 kg is meant for a small household of 1 to 2 people, 8 kg is the family size for 3 to 4 people and 9 kg is meant for a large family of 5 people or more. 8 kg is the most chosen size because it washes bedding in 1 go without an unnecessarily large appliance. The 8 kg Heinner washing machines have an energy rating of A or B. When comparing, also look at the consumption in kWh per 100 wash cycles. Want to know more about saving? Read buying an energy efficient washing machine.
On 8 kg machines you will usually come across 1200 to 1400 rpm. A higher spin speed wrings more water out of your laundry, so it dries faster. That is especially handy if you do not use a tumble dryer. Would you like a tumble dryer as well? Then also take a look at the tumble dryers or the washer dryers.
