Washer dryers: washing and drying in one appliance

A washer dryer washes and dries your laundry in a single appliance, in the space of an ordinary washing machine. Ideal if you are short on room, for example in a flat or a small utility area where a separate dryer simply will not fit. Our range holds 5 Heinner washer dryers, all with a 5-year warranty and free delivery and installation. Worth knowing: the drying capacity is usually lower than the washing capacity, so below we help you weigh up honestly whether a combined machine suits you or whether separate appliances are the smarter move.

All about Heinner washer dryers

A washer dryer combines two appliances in one housing and is therefore the most space-saving way to wash and dry at home. Even so, it is not a copy of a separate washing machine plus dryer. Below you can read how a combined machine works, what to look out for and when you are better off choosing separate appliances.

How does a washer dryer work?

In a washer dryer your laundry first runs a normal wash programme in the same drum that then also dries. The appliance switches automatically from washing to drying, so you go from dirty to dry laundry in one cycle without transferring anything yourself. The Heinner models dry by condensation, which means you need no drain hose to the outside and no special room. Want to compare the technology more broadly? Then read buying washing and drying appliances.

Washing capacity versus drying capacity

The main point of attention on any combined machine is that the drying capacity is lower than the washing capacity. A drum that can handle a full wash can only properly tumble and air part of that amount while drying. For a sharp drying result you therefore take a portion out of the drum after washing. How this works out exactly per Heinner model can be found in our washer dryer buying guide.

Who is a combined machine the smartest choice for?

A washer dryer is at its best in a flat, studio or small utility room where there is simply no space for a second appliance. For one and two-person households with manageable laundry volumes a combined machine also fits nicely. If on the other hand you wash large amounts daily for a family, a separate washing machine and tumble dryer that can run alongside each other pay off.

Delivery, installation and warranty

All Heinner washer dryers are delivered and installed free of charge, so your appliance is left connected and ready to use. On top of that there is a 5-year warranty, which gives extra peace of mind with an appliance that both washes and dries and is therefore used intensively. That way you know where you stand in advance, including in the longer term.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about washer dryers

Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

What is the difference between a washer dryer and separate appliances?

A washer dryer washes and dries in one appliance, in the space of an ordinary washing machine. With separate appliances you have a washing machine and a tumble dryer next to each other or stacked. The big advantage of a combined unit is that it saves space; the drawback is that the drying capacity is smaller than the wash capacity and you cannot wash and dry at the same time. Torn between the two? Then compare them in our washing and drying collection.

Can I wash and dry the same amount in a washer dryer?

No, that is the main thing to be aware of with a washer dryer. The drying capacity is lower than the wash capacity, because while drying the laundry needs more room to tumble and air. In practice you take part of the load out of the drum after washing, before the drying programme starts. How much that is depends on the model; we explain this in the buying guide.

Who is a washer dryer suitable for?

A washer dryer is ideal if space is your main consideration, for example in a flat or a small utility room where a second appliance will not fit. It also works well for one- and two-person households with a normal amount of washing. If you do a lot of large loads every day, a separate washing machine with a tumble dryer is more practical, because they can run at the same time.

Do I need a drain or an extra connection?

The Heinner washer dryers dry by condensation, so you do not need a separate vent to the outside. You connect the appliance to the water supply and the existing drain for washing, just like an ordinary washing machine. Our engineers take care of the free installation, so your appliance is ready to use straight away. You can read more about connecting and choosing in buying washing and drying appliances.

What warranty and service do I get with a Heinner fridge freezer?

On all washer dryers you get a 5 year warranty, plus free delivery and installation at your home. That is welcome with an appliance that does two jobs in one and therefore runs often. Not sure yet which type of laundry appliance suits you best? Then use the selector which washing machine or which tumble dryer to quickly point yourself in the right direction.
