Yes, run a new dishwasher empty once on a hot programme before you start using it. That rinses manufacturing residue and dust out of the pipes and spray arms. Add a dishwasher tablet or a splash of white vinegar. Top up the salt and rinse aid afterwards as described in the manual.
Run an empty programme at the highest temperature with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar in the cutlery basket. Do this roughly every three months, and more often if you live in a hard water area. Also keep the salt reservoir topped up and clean the filter at the bottom regularly — that prevents limescale better than descaling afterwards.
