Whether you are looking for a separate fridge, a roomy fridge freezer or extra freezing space with a freezer, below you can read what to look out for per type. How many litres of capacity do you need?

Capacity in litres is the key specification on any fridge or freezer. Compact models up to 100 litres suit a small household or a second appliance, while an average household is usually well served between 100 and 300 litres. Large families and anyone who stores a lot go for 400 litres or more, for example with an American fridge.

The fridge freezer as the most popular solution

A fridge freezer combines fridge and freezer in one appliance, which suits most households. With 73 models it is the largest branch within cooling and freezing. Unsure about the right size or the split between fridge and freezer space? Take the fridge freezer buying guide and you will quickly know what to look for.

No Frost: never defrost again

With No Frost the appliance prevents ice from building up, so you never have to defrost the freezer compartment again. In our range roughly half of the appliances have this technology, handy if you are after convenience. Our No Frost guide explains when it is worth it.

Freezers: chest freezer versus upright freezer

For extra freezing space you choose between a chest freezer and an upright freezer. A chest freezer is a top loader with plenty of space per euro, ideal for large stocks. An upright freezer stands vertically with handy drawers and stays easier to keep track of if you take something out often.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about cooling and freezing

Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

How many litres of capacity do I need?

That depends on your household. For a small household, or as a second fridge, a model of up to 100 litres is often enough. An average family is well served by 100 to 300 litres, and large families or anyone who keeps a lot of food in stock go for 400 litres or more. Always look at the capacity in litres first, because that is the most important spec.

What is the difference between a fridge and a fridge freezer?

A separate fridge only cools and has no freezer compartment or only a small one. A fridge freezer has a full-size fridge and freezer in one appliance, which makes it the most popular solution for most households. If you already have a separate freezer, or you only want cooling, a separate fridge may well be enough.

What does No Frost mean?

No Frost is a technology that prevents ice from forming in the freezer compartment. As a result you never have to defrost the appliance by hand again, which saves a lot of work. In our range around half of the fridges and freezers have No Frost. It is especially handy if you use the freezer compartment regularly.

Chest freezer or freestanding freezer, which do I choose?

A chest freezer is a top loader that offers a lot of space per euro and is ideal for large stocks. A freestanding freezer stands upright with drawers and is easier to keep track of if you often want to grab something. If you have plenty of floor space and store large quantities, a chest freezer is a good fit. If you want convenience and a clear overview, choose an upright model.

What energy rating do these appliances have?

Most fridges and freezers in this category have energy rating E. The energy rating is therefore less of a distinguishing factor; base your choice mainly on the capacity in litres, the type and features such as No Frost. You will find the exact consumption and rating for every product on its product page.
