Washing machines with steam function

A washing machine with a steam function gives your laundry that little bit extra. The steam helps to release creases from your clothes, so you iron less, and freshens up lightly worn items without a full wash cycle. Steam also helps reduce allergens and bacteria, which is welcome if you have sensitive skin or small children at home. This collection holds 35 Heinner washing machines with a steam programme, in various versions such as freestanding and built-in, and both front and top loaders. That way you pick the model that fits your space and your washing habits.

All about a Heinner washing machine with a steam function

A washing machine with a steam function does more than just wash. The steam gives your clothes extra care: fewer creases, fresher laundry and a more thorough clean on delicate fabrics. At Heinner you will find steam models in a range of versions, so there is always one that suits your laundry room and your wishes. Below you can read how the steam function works and what to look at when choosing.

How does the steam function work?

During a steam programme, warm steam is introduced into the drum. That steam penetrates the fibres and makes creases relax, so the laundry comes out smoother and fresher afterwards. As a result you often iron less. Some Heinner machines use steam at the end of the wash to take out creases, others deploy steam as a separate refresh programme for clothes that are not really dirty but could do with smelling fresh again.

Steam for allergies and sensitive skin

The high temperature of steam helps to reduce allergens such as dust and pollen as well as some of the bacteria in your textiles. That makes a washing machine with a steam function attractive if someone in the house has sensitive skin or suffers from allergies. Many Heinner models link the steam function to an anti-allergy and hygiene programme, ideal for bed linen, towels and baby clothes.

Which programmes do you often find?

Alongside the steam programme, Heinner washing machines regularly combine steam with a quick wash programme for lightly soiled laundry that needs to be ready fast, and with hygiene and anti-allergy programmes. That gives you the right programme for every situation: a short freshen-up, an intensive hygiene wash or an ordinary cycle with crease removal at the end. Exactly which programmes are present differs per model, so always check the specifications on the product page.

Choosing capacity, energy label and spin speed

Choose the capacity in kg based on your household size: for a family, 8 kg or 9 kg is usually comfortable. Also watch the energy label for lower electricity use and the spin speed, which determines how dry your laundry comes out of the machine. A model with 1400 rpm saves drying time. FAQ

Frequently asked questions about washing machines with a steam function

Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

What exactly does the steam function on a washing machine do?

The steam function brings warm steam into the drum. This loosens creases, which saves on ironing, and leaves your washing fresher. Steam also helps to reduce allergens and bacteria in the fabric. You can use it at the end of a wash to smooth out creases, or as a separate refresh programme for clothes that just need freshening up.

Can I refresh clothes with steam without a full wash?

Yes. Many Heinner washing machines with a steam function have a refresh setting that freshens up lightly worn clothes without a full wash. It takes out odours and creases and is handy for jumpers, trousers or a jacket that is not really dirty. Check the specifications of each model to see which steam settings it has.

Is a washing machine with a steam function suitable for sensitive skin?

A steam programme helps to reduce allergens and bacteria, which can be welcome if you have sensitive skin or allergies. Heinner often combines steam with an anti-allergy and hygiene programme, so that bedding and baby clothes are cleaned extra thoroughly. Read more in our guide to washing and drying.

Are all Heinner washing machines with steam front loaders?

No, the collection is a mix. You will find both freestanding and built-in models and both front loaders and top loaders with a steam function. So check the type and the dimensions on the product page carefully, to make sure the machine fits in your utility room. You can filter further in the full washing machine range.

What should I look out for when choosing capacity and spin speed?

Choose the capacity to suit your household: for a family you are well served with 8 kg or 9 kg. The spin speed determines how dry your washing comes out of the drum; a model with 1400 rpm saves drying time. Also look at the energy rating for lower electricity costs. The exact capacity and the maximum spin speed are listed per model in the specifications on the product page, so always check those before you choose.
