Slim Washing Machines

How much does a slim machine really save?

An ordinary washing machine is 55 to 60 cm deep. The machines on this page are 40 to 50 cm, and those ten to twenty centimetres are exactly what decides whether an appliance fits a cupboard, a worktop or a bathroom. The width is always 59.5 cm, the standard every installation space is built for. Measure your space before ordering, and count the room for the hoses behind it. Looking for a large drum instead? Slim washing machines: what to look for

For a washing machine, slim always means less deep. The width and height match any other machine, because those dimensions are standardised. What you give up is drum capacity; what you gain is room in a tight utility space.

What counts as slim?

A standard washing machine is 55 to 60 cm deep. Anything under 50 cm counts as slim, and the slimmest models sit around 40 cm. Our range runs from 40 to 50 cm. Two things never change: 59.5 cm wide and about 85 cm tall.

How much laundry fits?

A shallower drum is a smaller drum. Slim machines therefore usually hold 6 to 8 kg, against 9 or 10 kg on a standard model. For a one or two person household that is plenty; for a family of four you will wash more often.

What should you measure?

Measure the depth of your space and add five centimetres for the hoses behind it. Also check that the door opens fully: on a front loader it swings forward and often needs more room than the machine itself. Inside a cupboard, allow for ventilation.

Slim, or a top loader instead?

A top loader is about 40 cm wide and 61 cm deep: narrow in width rather than in depth. It is a different answer to the same problem, and handy if your machine sits in an alcove where a door cannot open forwards. See the top-loading washing machines.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about slim washing machines

Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

How deep is a slim washing machine?

The machines on this page are 40 to 50 cm deep, against 55 to 60 cm for a standard model. The slimmest sit around 40 cm. Width and height match any other washing machine: 59.5 cm wide and about 85 cm tall, because those are standardised dimensions.

How many kilos fit in a slim washing machine?

Usually 6 to 8 kg. A shallower drum is simply a smaller drum. For one or two people that is ample: 7 kg is about a week of clothing for two. For a family of four or more you will run noticeably more loads.

Will a slim washing machine fit under a worktop?

Often yes, but measure the height first. A washing machine is about 85 cm tall and a standard worktop sits at 90 cm, so it usually fits. Watch the depth of the worktop and the room you need to open the door. If the lid comes off, that gains you a few more centimetres.

Is a slim washing machine less efficient?

Not necessarily. The energy label is measured on a full drum, so a smaller machine you fill completely performs well. What does count: if a small drum makes you run two loads where a large one manages in one, you use more electricity and water in total.
