Outlet cooker hoods: new, with a cosmetic flaw

Wall-mounted and under-cabinet cooker hoods that are new, but not in a perfect box. A return within the cooling-off period, a box damaged in transit, or a scratch on the appliance itself. Every unit has been assessed by our engineer. With these appliances it is always a damaged box or a small scratch, so the condition is stated per appliance.

You get one year of Pro Witgoed warranty, free delivery and installation, and Trusted Shops buyer protection. Of almost every model there is just one.

How our engineer checks every appliance

Every outlet appliance passes through our engineer’s hands first. What happens depends on the type of appliance, and we say so plainly.

  • Washing machines and washer dryers Run a full test cycle: washing, spinning and draining. If a machine does not pass, it does not go on sale.
  • Fridges and freezers Are connected to the mains and tested on cooling before they go online.
  • Cooker hoods Are checked visually. It is always the box or a small scratch, so we do not take damage photos. We do not connect them here either: a hood is only fitted once it reaches your kitchen.
  • Microwaves and other appliances Are checked visually. It is always the box or a small scratch, so we do not take damage photos; the condition is stated per appliance.

One year of Pro Witgoed warranty on everything. If something does not work, we sort it out.

Buying an outlet cooker hood: what to look for

A cooker hood hangs at eye level above your hob: the front and the lower edge are what you see every day, while the top and the sides disappear against the cabinet or the wall. That is exactly what decides which damage is acceptable. Below you can read what matters, and how to choose extraction rate, ducting and width.

Where damage matters, and where it doesn't

On an under-cabinet hood most of the housing is tucked away beneath a kitchen unit: a dent on the top or a side is no longer visible. On a wall-mounted hood the chimney hangs in full view, and there a scratch on the front really does count. The condition is stated for every appliance. We do not take damage photos here: it is always the box or a small scratch, never a dent that marks the appliance. The conditions: Box damaged only, Lightly damaged and Visibly damaged.

Extraction rate and noise

The rate is given in cubic metres per hour. A workable rule of thumb is the volume of your kitchen times ten: that is what you want to refresh every hour. A generously sized hood means you need the highest setting less often, and that shows in the noise, because it is precisely at that setting that the decibels climb fastest.

Ducted outside or recirculating

With ducting to the outside, steam and odours leave the house. That works best, but it requires a duct to the facade or the roof. Without one, the hood works on recirculation: the air passes through a carbon filter and returns to the kitchen filtered. That filter is replaced a few times a year. Check per model whether recirculation is supported and which filter it takes.

Under-cabinet or wall-mounted, and the right width

An under-cabinet hood slides beneath an existing kitchen unit; a wall-mounted hood hangs as a chimney above the hob. The width follows your hob: 60 cm is the standard, 90 cm belongs with a wide hob. Also measure the height above the hob; with gas, 65 cm clearance is usual, with induction it may be less. For comparison, the new models are in the cooker hoods category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about outlet cooker hoods

Can't find your question? Feel free to get in touch.

Does an outlet cooker hood extract as well as a new one?

Yes. The damage is cosmetic and on the outside; the motor is unaffected. With cooker hoods it is always a damaged box or a small scratch. Our engineer assesses every hood and records the condition. We do not connect it here, because it is only fitted once it reaches your kitchen. You get one year of Pro Witgoed warranty.

How much damage is there on a hood?

Always limited. It is a damaged box or a small scratch; larger damage does not reach the outlet for a hood. Every appliance states which condition applies: Box damaged only, Lightly damaged and Visibly damaged.

We do not take damage photos in this case, precisely because there is never more to see than that. If you want to be sure, ask our customer service for a description of that particular unit.

There is only one unit per model. Is that right?

That is right. Of almost every model there is exactly one in the outlet, because each appliance has its own damage and its own photos. Once sold, it disappears from this list. The model itself is usually still available new.

Can the hood work without ducting to the outside?

On most models yes, on recirculation with a carbon filter. Check on the appliance concerned whether this is supported and which filter you need; that filter is not included as standard and is replaced a few times a year.

How much cheaper is it than the same model new?

That varies per unit and depends on the damage. The new price is shown next to every appliance, so you can see the difference before you choose.
