Choosing a black cooker hood
A black cooker hood stands out less than a stainless steel one and goes with a black hob, dark kitchen fronts or black taps and handles. First choose the type: an under-cabinet hood disappears under a wall cupboard, a chimney or angled hood hangs on the wall and a telescopic hood slides out when you cook. Then the width: at least as wide as your hob. Looking for a hood that disappears? See the under-cabinet cooker hoods.

Black cooker hoods: what to look for
With a black cooker hood you choose in two steps: first the type that suits your kitchen, then the finish. All styles in other colours are among the cooker hoods.
Black or black glass?
A black hood has a black housing; with black glass there is a glass front or screen on top. Glass looks sleeker and wipes clean easily, but fingerprints show sooner.
Which type suits your kitchen?
An under-cabinet hood mounts under a wall cupboard and almost disappears. A chimney or angled hood hangs on the wall; the angled design leaves more head room above the hob. A telescopic hood sits in a cupboard and slides out when you cook. All wall models are among the wall-mounted cooker hoods.
How wide should it be?
At least as wide as your hob, preferably a little wider. For a 60 cm hob a 60 cm hood is enough; for a 75 or 90 cm hob or cooker choose a 90 cm hood. The 52 cm built-in hood is meant to fit inside a wall cupboard.
Ducted or recirculating?
With a duct to the outside, steam and smells really leave the house. Without a duct you use the hood in recirculation mode: a carbon filter captures the smells and the air goes back into the kitchen. Check per model which mode it supports. A new hob as well? See the hobs.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about black cooker hoods
Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.
Is a black cooker hood harder to keep clean?
Grease and dust show a little sooner on black than on stainless steel, and fingerprints mainly on black glass. A damp cloth with a mild detergent keeps it clean; do not use abrasives. On most hoods the grease filters come out and can go in the dishwasher.
Which width black cooker hood do I need?
At least as wide as your hob. Our black cooker hoods come in 60 and 90 cm, plus a 52 cm built-in hood to fit inside a wall cupboard.
What is the difference between an under-cabinet and a chimney hood?
An under-cabinet hood mounts under a wall cupboard and almost disappears. A chimney hood hangs on the wall with a chimney up to the ceiling and is more of a feature. We have both in black.
Can a black cooker hood work without a duct?
Yes, in recirculation mode: a carbon filter removes the smells from the air, which then goes back into the kitchen. Steam is removed less well than with a duct to the outside. Check per model whether it supports recirculation and whether a carbon filter is included.
