No Frost freezers

Why a No Frost freezer?

In an ordinary freezer, ice slowly builds up on the walls and drawers, and every so often you have to empty it and defrost it. A No Frost freezer prevents that: a fan circulates cold, dry air and the moisture is removed automatically. Your food does not freeze together and the full capacity stays usable. No Frost freezers: what to look for

In a freezer, No Frost is mainly about convenience: no ice layer, no defrosting. Beyond that you choose on capacity, size and type. All freezers, with or without No Frost, are among the freezers.

How does No Frost work?

A fan circulates cold air through the freezer. The moisture in that air settles on an evaporator behind the wall, which is regularly defrosted automatically and drained. So no ice forms in the drawers or on the walls. You never need to defrost a No Frost freezer by hand.

How much capacity do you need?

Allow about 50 litres of freezer space per person if you freeze a lot, less if you mainly store a few items. An upright freezer has drawers so everything stays organised; a chest freezer gives more capacity for your money but gets cluttered faster. Chest freezers are among the chest freezers.

Convertible: freezer or fridge

Some No Frost freezers are convertible: with one setting you use them as a freezer or as a fridge. Handy when you temporarily need more fridge space, for example around the holidays or with a large family. The product name then says so.

Energy label and noise

A freezer runs day and night, so the energy label matters. Compare the annual consumption in kWh in the specifications: it tells you more than the letter alone. An inverter compressor adjusts its power continuously and is therefore quieter and more efficient than a standard compressor. A matching fridge? See the larder fridges.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about No Frost freezers

Cannot find your question here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

Do you ever need to defrost a No Frost freezer?

No. Defrosting happens automatically behind the wall without you noticing. You only clean it now and then, just like a fridge.

Is a No Frost freezer less energy efficient?

The fan and automatic defrosting use some electricity, but an ordinary freezer also uses more as the ice layer grows. Compare the annual consumption in kWh in the specifications; that is the fair measure.

Does food dry out in a No Frost freezer?

Unwrapped food can dry out faster or get freezer burn because of the circulating dry air. So pack everything airtight in freezer bags or tubs; then you will not notice any difference.

What does convertible mean for a freezer?

A convertible freezer can also be used as a fridge with a single setting. That is handy when you temporarily need more fridge space.

What is the difference between an upright freezer and a chest freezer?

An upright freezer stands tall and has drawers, so everything is visible and easy to reach. A chest freezer opens from the top and often offers more capacity for the same money, but is less organised. Our No Frost models are upright freezers.
